Fri, 09 Sep 2016
Interactive Advertising* continues to grow with the latest IAB/PwC Online Advertising Report noting that the sector generated $218.76m million in Q2, 2016, a 14% increase year on year. Revenue in the first half of the year (HY) reached $422m.
Display Revenue on track for a record year
Display advertising reached the $38.4m, an all-time high over the reported period and $70m for the first half of the year.
The make-up of display advertising continues to shift with video and programmatic bookings achieving consistent growth.
Programmatic advertising in particular performed extremely well over the quarter setting a record of $8m ($15m HY) and tracking towards $30m for the year. This will represent some 22% of the total display number. An extraordinary result considering this sector didn’t exist 4 years ago.
Given the fluidity of the Display category, General Display advertising has held its own and the IAB estimates the sector to generate $90m in 2016 which is on par with the average annual results over the last 5 years.
Mobile advertising continued its meteoric rise, generating $10m in the quarter a year on year increase of 65%. ($19.8M HY).
Search & Directories increased 13% to $118.8m for the quarter ($230m HY) and Social Media generated $13.6m ($25m HY) a significant 54% lift on 12 months ago.
Given the current trends, the IAB estimates the interactive industry will generate some $900m in 2016 compared to $800m last year.
