Wellington based interactive agency Resn has won the prestigious Favourite Website Award (FWA) for the website they produced for New Zealand independent musician Luke Buda http://www.specialsurprise.co.nz . The website was the second FWA award won by Resn this year, a feat not previously achieved by a New Zealand based company before, following on from their win in February with another New Zealand band, Minuit.
 
The website was produced as a show-piece of Resn’s talent to gain the attention of the World’s biggest brands and advertising agencies. Both Minuit’s and Luke Buda’s websites competed for this award against the World’s biggest brands that often have website budgets in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
 
Steve Le Marquand, Creative Director of Resn, says, “Winning the FWA award was amazing but winning it twice has proved it wasn’t luck and that New Zealanders can rub shoulders with the World’s biggest brands and advertising agencies. We’ve had some amazing feedback and interest from big industry players. The fact that we have won both awards promoting New Zealand music is awesome!”
 
This award is expected to bring heavy international traffic to the website within the next month and will draw the attention of a who’s who of the interactive advertising industry. The Chicago Tribune voted it the number one web award in the world beating Youtube and the Webbys and describing it as what the “…Oscar is to film excellence.” FWA is the most visited website award program in the history of the Internet and is followed by most of the interactive industry. FWA state that the award “…showcases future thinking, progressively designed sites who use cutting edge technology, together with inspirational ideas, that lead the way for future generations.”
 
Luke Buda comments, “I still can’t believe I fooled these chaps into making me a website this great. I’m amazed! I’m sure people will really enjoy the experience."
 
Resn Creative were the first New Zealand based company to win an FWA Site of the Day and winning the award for the second time within a year helps place this small New Zealand company in the elite of the World’s interactive companies. Minuit’s website has already won the Best Music Website category of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Web Awards, the 2007 Pixel Awards - Music category, it received a Merit at the One Show Interactive awards and was an Honouree at the The Webby Awards for Best Music Website, this category eventually being won by the BBC.
 
Apart from their international clients, Resn have created websites for some of New Zealand’s top music acts including The Black Seeds and Liam Finn. These sites have been hugely successful with The Black Seeds (www.theblackseeds.com) website being nominated for the coveted SXSW Web Awards Music Category and Liam Finn (www.liamfinn.co.nz) receiving over a quarter of a million visitors within one week to his viral music game.
