Facebook New Zealand’s favourite social networking site
It’s official – Facebook is New Zealand’s favourite social networking site. Latest (April) Comscore New Zealand figures show local Facebook membership has overtaken Bebo. Facebook’s 938,000 unique browsers (38% of total audience research) compares to Bebo’s 904,000 UBs (36.6% audience reach) and 230,000 MySpace UBs. Over the past six months Facebook’s local audience has increased 69%, whereas Bebo’s has diminished by more than 8%.
Analysis of webmail activity shows a one horse race, with April figures putting Windows Live Hotmail (1.192 million users) almost two-and-a-half times ahead of next closest rival Yahoo!Mail (0.481 million).
The past six months (to April) shows growth across all three providers, with combined figures accounting for 2.08 million email accounts – up 16.2% from last October.
A recent USD $200 million 1.96 percent equity stake taken by investment firm Digital Sky Technologies (DST) gives Facebook a $10 billion valuation.
MSN New Zealand has sold banner advertising on Facebook since April last year, providing local advertisers with access to Facebook’s young, educated spenders.
