A July 2007 study by InsightExpress showed while more than 60% of users believed they were able to successfully delete cookies, only 28.2% were actually able to do so.
A June report by comScore, "The Impact of Cookie Deletion on the Accuracy of Site-Server and Ad-Server Metrics: An Empirical comScore Study", which monitored cookies from Yahoo! and DoubleClick, found that users' most popular opinion of cookies was that they "both improved and detracted" from users' Internet experience.
