Hi everyone,

There’s a big debate coming up between the MPA and IAB: http://www.iab.org.nz/events/item/iab_mpa_presentmagazines_are_dead

Although it’s a fairly easy proposition to defend, any thoughts and metrics to back up our clear-cut case would be most helpful.

For instance, Lance Wiggs has given us a great snapshot on the decline in readership: http://lancewiggs.com/2009/10/27/nz-magazine-readership-numbers/ Tearaway down almost 42% on previous year - that must really hurt!

Is a magazine, really a magazine once it becomes an online site (eg Autotrader)?  Surely the printed edition then becomes redundant ...

I welcome your views.  Cheers, MG

People still read blogs, you just need to get creative since it’s competitive. ... Like business books, magazines, Web sites generally, etc, I don’t think ... Blogging is very profitable - as part of your overall sell to a market niche. ... I don’t think blogging is dead. And even for startups in a saturated niche ...

Hi MG

I think we have already seen a massive decline in tradtional media both magazine and newspaper - people just dont have the time anymore to read!

This is why fairfax proberly saw the decline some time ago and went in hard and heavy with its online businesses. consider why a newspaper has to have a website? thats a strong statement that says where this is all going.

The next big leap will be internet on your TV. After that you will see a drop in print media sales like you will neve believe possible!!!

opinions?
